How a Short Circuit Can Cause a Fire

A short circuit allows excessive current to flow through a circuit with little or no resistance. When this happens, the fuse heats up and burns open to stop the dangerous current flow. The blown fuse helps protect wires and electrical devices from overheating and damage.
